IE Conference being held at Ravensbourne 29th & 30th March 2012
The history of design has traditionally been a story of new ideas, new theories and, above all, new construction. However, today, the developed world is on the cusp of a new era. The financial crisis, the sustainability movement and the conservation agenda are all leading to ever more alterations of existing buildings and ever fewer new build projects. This new condition will have major consequences for all those involved in the design of the built environment both now and in the future.
The objective of the conference is to examine the practice of interior design and architectural re-use in the context of this new condition. It will look at historical tendencies, current conditions and future possibilities.
The theme of PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE offers participants the chanceto look at any aspect of the theme from the vantage point of time.
Interior Educators is the subject association for all Interiors courses across the UK. It is a unique group in that it provides a forum for debate and the exchange of ideas and practice effecting the education of designers of interior space. It is currently the only subject association for interiors education and educators in the UK. It was formed in Manchester in 2006 at a meeting attended by a small group of educators aware of the burgeoning interest in the discipline of the design of interior space. It now represents thirty of the best, well-established courses, all offering an excellent education in an undergraduate interior degree.
IE is an advocate for promotion and recognition of excellence and intellectual rigor within the broad range of UK wide Interior Architecture and Design education and research and it is recognised as the national authority on UK Interior Architecture and Design education and research issues.
